The Malawi Network of Older Persons’ Organizations (MANEPO) is proud to announce that its Executive Director, Andrew Kavala, who also serves as a Commissioner for the Malawi Human Rights Commission, has been sworn into the 4th General Assembly of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Council of the African Union (ECOSOCC).
ECOSOCC, an Advisory and Consultative Organ of the African Union, was established in 2004 under Articles 5 and 22 of the AU Constitutive Act. It plays a crucial role in ensuring that civil society organizations contribute effectively to the policies and programs of the African Union, focusing on economic, social, and cultural development across the continent.
Andrew Kavala took his oath during the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 4th Permanent General Assembly (4-PGA), which commenced today in Nairobi, Kenya. This milestone reflects his dedication to advocating for human rights and the empowerment of marginalized groups, including older persons.
As a representative of MANEPO and Malawi, Andrew Kavala’s role in ECOSOCC is a significant step toward amplifying the voices of older persons and other vulnerable groups within the African Union framework. His swearing-in ceremony highlights the growing recognition of the importance of inclusive development and human rights at the continental level.
MANEPO congratulates Andrew on this achievement and remains committed to supporting his efforts in advancing social justice, equity, and dignity for all.
Together, we are making a difference.
